Personal coaching vs. personal trainer – who should you train with?

You want to lose weight, get fitter and eat healthier? But you don't want to tackle it alone, and you're thinking about getting support?

The health and fitness landscape can be overwhelming: there are countless personal trainers, fitness platforms and fitness apps, as well as personal coaches. Personal coaching usually costs more than personal training or a fitness program from the internet.

But is it actually worth investing in personal coaching, or can you reach your fitness goals with a cheaper alternative?

To get the greatest benefit for yourself, it's important to know the differences. In this post, you'll learn why sustainable change is only achievable with a holistic approach, and why a personal trainer only seems cheaper at first glance.

With a personal trainer, the training is the focus

Personal trainer: the training is the focus

With a personal trainer, you can get the most out of your training. They can show you exercises that let you train more efficiently and get your body in shape, and correct your posture. But often, that's as far as it goes.

Most personal trainers have basic knowledge when it comes to training, but when it comes to sound nutrition coaching, and especially to sustainably changing eating behaviour, they lack the professional expertise.

Yet nutrition plays at least as important a role as fitness training when it comes to shaping your body. Only with the right nutrition can you achieve fast results.

Sustainably changing your eating behaviour requires sound expert knowledge

Sustainably changing eating behaviour through holistic coaching

While a personal trainer mainly supports you with physical training, personal coaching goes far beyond that level. A personal coach helps you get fitter and live a healthier life, and looks at your body holistically.

Holistic coaching puts you, in your entirety, at the centre. And that's exactly what matters when you want to improve your health and fitness. You embark on your own, individual path here.

When it comes to health and fitness, there's no single right way. No pre-made fitness program offered on the various platforms and apps online can give you support tailored precisely to you and your needs.

Sustainable change only through a holistic approach

A personal coach, on the other hand, is an expert in training theory for different target groups. They adapt the training individually for you and align it with your body and your needs (advanced or beginner, younger or older, people with injuries or other limitations).

A personal coach also has very sound knowledge and practical expertise in the field of nutrition, and is familiar with applying different diets for different target groups (omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, ketogenic, paleo, etc.).

Beyond that, they help you sustainably change your eating behaviour, to achieve faster and, above all, lasting change. Sustainable change also touches on the mental side, which a personal coach covers as well.

Sustainable change begins on the mental level

Achieve deep change with my holistically oriented personal coaching

I'm happy to support you in my holistically oriented personal coaching to achieve deep, lasting change. I have expertise in all three fields (training, nutrition and mental coaching) and work with executives in the field of leadership. To be able to offer you a valuable premium coaching experience, I've completed numerous certifications.

  • As a Precision Nutrition Coach, I have the tools and methods to achieve lasting body change through nutrition tailored precisely to your needs.
  • As an NLP Master Coach and Mental Coach, I know practical applications you can use to change your mental awareness and create your new self, and quickly, too.

With a personal trainer, you end up paying even more

If you choose personal coaching, you ultimately pay even less than with a personal trainer.

With a personal trainer, you're essentially only scratching the surface, since they only cover the training and don't look at the person holistically. To achieve change on every level, you'd need a nutritionist for optimizing your diet and a mental coach for the mental side, on top of a personal trainer.

Add up the price for these three services, and the cost is clearly higher than for personal coaching, which covers both the physical and mental areas. A personal trainer, therefore, only seems cheaper at first glance.

Cost of personal training

Low price & low value = fewer results & less sustainability

To wrap up, I want to show you one more graphic, which illustrates why people who don't hire a coach, and instead rely on fitness plans and training tips from the internet, are very likely to fail.

Anyone who thinks they can do it all themselves by looking at a few online resources sets the challenge high (y-axis). Since there's no support (x-axis) from a coach, the end result is failure!

And that's why many coaching apps with passive support are also clearly inferior compared to in-person coaching:

→ Low price & low value = fewer results & less sustainability

→ High challenge & low support = not reaching your goals = failure

Did you really save a few francs? Probably not...
