Training in times of Corona: what matters now

The sharply rising Corona infection numbers make us think back to the restrictions in spring. The gyms had to close for many weeks. In some cantons of Switzerland there are already mini-lockdowns, other European countries are once again in a complete lockdown.

So that we stay healthy and can prevent a second lockdown, it's important that we all pull together. What you should watch out for now to train safely in the gym, you'll learn in this blog post.

The risk of infection is increased in the gym

In principle, the risk of getting infected with the coronavirus is higher indoors than outside. There's an increased risk in the gym in particular, because you breathe more heavily due to high physical exertion and exercise relatively close to one another.

The virus is transmitted mainly through droplet infection. That's why it's important to keep a sufficient distance (at least 1.5 metres, for indoor sport at least 2.5 metres is better) from others.

In 1:1 personal training in my private gym in Urdorf, we have the possibility to keep a greater distance, ventilate regularly and thoroughly disinfect all surfaces we touch as well as dumbbells and co. I also provide disinfectant and wipes.

This is how the gym doesn't become a place of infection:

Nevertheless, the risk of an infection in the gym can't be completely eliminated. Because even when you have no symptoms but have had contact with a person who has the virus, you can be a carrier. That's why it's important that we're fundamentally careful and follow the rules. Only if we protect ourselves from an infection in everyday life will the gym not become a place of infection:

  • Keep your distance
  • Wear a mouth and nose covering when you can't keep the necessary distance
  • Wash your hands regularly
  • Cough or sneeze into the crook of your arm or into a tissue

It's really important that you follow the distancing and hygiene rules to stay healthy and protect your fellow humans from an infection. If you notice suspicious symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, headache or aching limbs, don't go to train at the gym, but stay at home and reduce your personal contacts.

Of course it doesn't automatically mean you're affected by the coronavirus just because you cough. But in these times it's simply better to take absolutely no risk.

Risk-free training is possible in online personal training

You can also train with me completely risk-free online. Already now, or only if it should actually come to a second lockdown. My private gym in Urdorf has a virtual setup with a 360° camera arrangement that creates a training result which comes absolutely close to training in the gym. It feels as if we were training together in the gym. I always keep an eye on your exercise execution and can correct you if necessary.

For our online fitness training you don't even need fitness equipment. I show you exercises with your own body weight that can be even more intense than training with equipment. What matters above all is how you perform the exercises and how they can be varied. If you have dumbbells or other sports equipment at home, we can gladly include them in our training too. That's up to you.

Together we stay fit and healthy

The current situation is tough, but we have to take it seriously and pay close attention to following the prescribed hygiene measures and distancing rules. Only this way can we stay healthy and avoid a second lockdown and the closure of the gyms.

If the gyms have to close again, it takes away many athletes' incentive for regular training. If the meeting and exchange with other trainees falls away, something is missing. And if physical movement is missing, one or another kilo comes on faster too, which additionally weakens mental health, which can already be strained by the current crisis situation.

So let's stay strong and healthy together. I'm there for you and support you in these times of crisis and help you stay physically and mentally fit. Our personal training can take place physically as well as online.
